Organization
The Research Unit Sustainability and Climate Risks is part of the Department of Earth Sciences at Hamburg University’s Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences (MIN).
We host more than twenty staff members, seven of which are supported by the University’s core funding (incl. secretary), while the remainder are either supported by third-party funding and stipends, or hold student status.
The Research Unit is led by Prof. Dr. Hermann Held and Prof. Dr. Jana Sillmann, and co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Uwe Schneider. Hermann Held and Uwe Schneider lead the Research Group ‘Sustainability and Global Change’ (FNU), Jana Sillmann the Research Group ‘Climate Extremes’. All three are members of the Department of Earth Sciences, Hermann Held is also a member of the Department of Economics.
Most FNK scientists are members of the university’s Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN). The CEN bundles expertise from the natural sciences, economics, social sciences, and the humanities. Hermann Held is a member of the CEN’s governing board.
