Prof. Jana Sillmann, Deputy Director of the FNK, has attended the IPCC Expert Meeting on Methodologies, Metrics and Indicators for Assessing Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation which was held in Accra, Ghana, from March 3rd to 5th 2026. About 50 invited experts from around the world have gathered for this meeting that was convened by the IPCC Working Group II evaluating the latest scientific evidence on climate impacts, adaptation, and vulnerabilities. The outcome (a report) of this Expert Meeting aims to inform IPCC authors in AR7 (the Seventh Assessment Report) on existing frameworks for risk and impact assessments for adaptation and the status of ongoing work on indicators, metrics and methodologies undertaken by a range of adaptation practitioners working at local, subregional, national scales and in implementing agencies, as well as take stock of the progress made in the global goal on adaptation under the Paris Agreement.
Founded in 1988, the IPCC is the international body for assessing climate research and provides policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, as well as options for adaptation and mitigation.
The goal of the Expert meeting was to gather experts to review past and current initiatives and scientific approaches that help understand and track adaptation progress at different scales. The meeting report, to be published later this year, is meant to support and guide the authors of the IPCC AR7 in the assessment of methodologies, metrics, and indicators or measuring impact and adaptation in a way that addresses gaps and supports effective adaptation.
