On January 20, 2026, Dr. Lukas Brunner from the Climate Extremes group participated in the interactive teaching program “Wir wollen’s wissen” from the University of Hamburg. The aim of the program is to bring scientists and research into the classrooms of Hamburg. Lukas visited a secondary school, the Stadtteilschule Stellingen, to give an introduction to Climate Extremes and how they are changing with climate change, and talk about ongoing research to 21 interested pupils of a bi-lingual 7th grade class. “It was very exciting to make these topics I work with every day relevant for a very different audience", says Lukas. At the end of the interactive 90 minutes, there was also time for questions and discussion. Lukas: “I was really impressed by the range of different questions and we also had some fun when someone asked what the strangest thing that anyone had ever done with a climate model was (to which I answered probably simulating Westeros, the world from Game of Thrones).”
