Dr. Leonard Borchert new professorial substitute

Dr. Leonard Borchert has been the new professorial substitute to Jana Sillmann’s professorship on Climate Extremes at the FNK since the beginning of November. Jana and Leonard will jointly lead the Climate Extremes group for the next three years.

Leonard holds a PhD from Universität Hamburg and has held postdoc positions at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Institut Pierre Simon Laplace, Sorbonne University and École Normale Supérieure. He has been working in the climate extremes group at FNK since April 2022, studying climate extremes, their predictions and impacts. He currently focuses on applying knowledge about future climate extremes to learn about their interactions with society. In the new role, he wants to strengthen the group's work on these topics, improving our understanding of near- and far-term future climate risks.
