As part of the public lecture series on the climate crisis "Reclaiming Tomorrow" at the University of Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Jana Sillmann gave a lecture about weather extremes in the climate crisis on May 20, 2025. In her presentation, Prof. Sillmann illustrated the connections between climate change and weather extremes and outlined the socioeconomic impacts. The lecture focused also on the diverse drivers of risks, including weather extremes as hazards but also the vulnerability and exposure of affected human and natural systems. In her lecture, Prof. Sillmann also highlighted that a crisis also entails opportunities and that we need to foster hope and engage in visions for the future that can integrate different perspectives and goals for building a resilient society.
A video of the lecture (in German only) is available in the Lecture2Go Database of the University of Hamburg.
