Hao is an interdisciplinary conservation geographer, trained in conservation and land system science, and ecological economics. In his work, he integrates methodologies from remote sensing, spatial analysis, econometrics, landscape ecology, social-ecological networks, and systematic conservation planning to gain insights into coupled human-nature systems and explore nature-based solutions.
Having received his Ph.D. in February 2024 from the University of Copenhagen, his previous research focused on understanding the causal effects of conservation actions on nature's contributions to people and human well-being. It also examined the trade-offs and synergies between social-ecological outcomes derived from these conservation actions.
As a Postdoc researcher at FNK, Hao's current work delves into evaluating conservation statuses and developing systematic conservation planning for a sustainable and acceptable protected tundra area network at the circum-Arctic scale with Prof. Uwe A. Schneider and Dr. Kerstin Jantke.
