On Wednesday, February 14, Dr. Kerstin Jantke, Prof. Uwe Schneider, and doctoral students Lea Schröder and Luisa Gensch visited the North German Fruit Growing Days 2024 in Jork. The exhibition is located in the Altes Land, one of the most important apple-growing regions in Germany, and serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and innovation. The FNK researchers used the event to obtain first-hand information about developments in apple cultivation and to meet with project partners from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials in Stade and the Fruit-Growing Centre Jork ESTEBURG. The new project, if funded, will demonstrate new opportunities to produce apples in a climate-friendly manner. To this end, FNK will develop a comprehensive greenhouse gas balance and a novel fruit sector model.
Miriam Staudte, Lower Saxony's Minister for Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection, listens to Prof. Uwe Schneider explain new possibilities for ecological balancing of apple production.
