Luisa Gensch, a PhD student at our institute and the International Max Planck Research School for Earth System Modeling (IMPRS-ESM), has been awarded a stipend by the Übersee-Club for her planned research visit to the United States. The Übersee-Club, known for its commitment to fostering academic exchange and research, awards these stipends biennially during its 'Großer Übersee-Tag' event. The ceremony includes a morning session where the First Mayor traditionally delivers a welcome address to members, followed by a keynote speech by a distinguished speaker. In the evening, a festive dinner is held at the Hotel Atlantic Hamburg, where the members of the Übersee-Club come together and listen to speeches by the President and a renowned guest from business, politics, culture or science.
This year's stipends were presented to promising academics and researchers, among whom Luisa Gensch was selected to receive financial support for a visit to the United States. She will use the scholarship to help fund her research stay with Professor Arika Ligmann-Zielinska, an associate professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University. Together, they will use agent-based modeling to analyze and project the transition of agricultural systems to environmentally friendly production. The visit is an excellent opportunity for Luisa Gensch to collaborate with a renowned expert in the field of Agent-based modeling and advance her research on sustainable agricultural systems. The planned work will also complement research at Hamburg University's Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) where Luisa actively contributes to the project C2 - Sustainable Land-Use Scenarios: Soil, Biodiversity, Water, Food and Energy Security.
