The 10th annual PhD workshop of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) recently took place in Budapest, Hungary, serving as a central platform for researchers and experts to explore innovative strategies for sustainable agricultural development. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Budapest, the workshop facilitated in-depth discussions and presentations that addressed key challenges facing the agricultural sector.
Two FNK doctoral students contributed to the workshop with their latest research results. Jihye Jeong delivered an insightful discussion paper titled "Managing scarce water and land resources: modeling the potential of cowpea production in Namibia". Jeong's research focused on optimizing cowpea production in Namibia and provided valuable insights into sustainable agricultural practices tailored to the region's unique resource constraints. In addition, Luisa Gensch presented a stimulating flash paper entitled "Integrating the approaches of agent-based models and partial equilibrium models: the case of conversion to organic farming in Europe". Gensch's study highlighted the importance of combining different modeling methods to analyze the effects of conversion to organic farming in the European context, underlining the need for interdisciplinary frameworks in agricultural research.
The lively exchange of scientific findings and innovative discussions at the 10th EAAE PhD workshop in Budapest underlined the importance of collaborative investigations and forward-looking research in addressing sustainability challenges in the field of agriculture.
