A recent publication by Jana Sillmann et al. published in Nature shows that even a moderate 2-degree rise in global temperatures can have extreme consequences. The sectors most affected are expected to be agriculture, forestry and urban areas, resulting in droughts in global key breadbasket regions, fire weather extremes across forests and precipitation extremes in densely populated areas. The researchers developed a new method to analyze regional climatic impact-drivers to find sector-specific climate damages. These findings will help policymakers and stakeholders to better prepare for climate-related risks by investing in adaptation and mitigation.
