Natalia Castillo is a Mexican Ph.D. student in the field of climate, especially the combined extremes of heat waves and drought. She has a Bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Sciences, a Master's degree in Physical Oceanography and a Postgraduate Diploma in Earth System Physics.
She is doing her Ph.D. in Sustainable Development and Climate Change at IUSS Pavia in Italy. This program brings together different curriculums or areas: from environment and physics to health and economics to develop topics that contribute to a better sustainable future for the Earth. She belongs to Curriculum 1, which is related to the Earth System and Environment.
As part of her Ph.D., she is encouraged to spend at least 6 months abroad to enrich her studies. She chose to do this at the University of Hamburg in the Climate Extremes Research Group. She found the group to be very relevant to her PhD topic and to have very good researchers with an expertise in climate, modelling, and impacts. She also thinks that Hamburg is a nice city with many students from different backgrounds.
In the Climate Extremes Research Group, she will be supervised by Dr. Leonard Borchert, a climate scientist who works with different types of models to understand extremes. She is very excited about this new era of her Ph.D., which she is sure will help her to learn from the experts in climate and bring nice collaborations in the a near and far future.
