From February 11–12, 2026, Professor Uwe Schneider, Dr. Kerstin Jantke, Dr. Lea Sophia Schröder, and Dr. Sönke Häseler of the FNK attended the horticultural trade fair "Norddeutsche Obstbautage" in Jork, near Hamburg. The purpose of their attendance was to present their work in the KERMIT project. KERMIT, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, investigates several new technologies that promise to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in fruit cultivation.
The team exhibited the project to a diverse audience, including numerous fruit growers, local politicians, and members of the media. Additionally, a significant number of fruit growers volunteered to complete an ongoing survey on the prevalence of, and attitudes towards, carbon accounting in the fruit-growing sector. The team is currently engaged in the preparation of a paper that will present the results of the survey.
