A challenging approach? NEXUS seeks to understand the complex links between food systems, natural resources (especially water and biodiversity), health, and climate change. Experts from different disciplines met to present and discuss the NEXUS report published in February 2025. The panel discussion occurred on 17 March 2025 at HIAS, the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study.
Intending to bring together relevant research work, the IPBES platform, as part of the United Nations, commissioned a paper in 2022. 147 governments are involved. Walter Pengue, HIAS Fellow 2024/25 and one of the main authors of the NEXUS paper, presented the main findings at the meeting. One of the invited panelists was also Prof. Dr. Uwe Schneider, Group Leader of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the FNK. Together with other experts, he analysed and discussed the study's results.
The HIAS, as a scientific college, opens up a space for interdisciplinary research and exchange for excellent scientists and artists. Two of the central founding principles of the HIAS are interdisciplinary discourse and open exchange with society.
